What exactly is IoT?

IoT or Internet of Things, refers to the connection of everyday objects to the Internet and to one another, with the goal being to provide users with smarter, more efficient experiences. This includes everything from cell phones, coffee makers, washing machines, headphones, lamps, wearable devices and almost anything else you can think of.

The analyst firm Gartner says that by 2020 there will be over 26 billion connected devices.
